Jocotenango Admiring ceramics at the Private View
The London art exhibition in aid of the UKZN UK Trust had a glittering launch when its Private View was attended by around 80 alumni and Trust supporters.
They gathered at the Milton Gallery at St Paul’s School, Lonsdale Road, Barnes, London SW13 9JT, for the official opening in November of the mixed-media event, entitled “Trust Artists”. It was a very sociable occasion, with those attending having a marvellous opportunity to enjoy the art and have a chat over a glass of wine.
The exhibition included painting, drawing, printmaking and ceramics by about 20 professional artists living in the UK or South Africa. Among the artists in the UK were: Jenny Franklin, Susan Rosenberg, Jonathan Keep, Jill Orpen, Anna Alcock and Carola Gordon.
Juliet Armstrong from the University’s Department of Creative Visual Arts in Pietermaritzburg collated work from artists in SA for the exhibition. These included: Ian Calder, Jinny Heath, Terry King, Walter Oltmann, David Walters and Vulindlela Nyoniare. Work from the Ardmore Pottery, the brainchild of Feé Halsted-Berning, was also exhibited.

The work sparked a lot of interest among those attending the Private View and purchases were sometimes fairly brisk. When the final figures came in in January, it turned out that a sum of £1,321 was raised for the Trust’s bursaries for needy students.
The exhibition ran until 8th December. The Trustees are grateful to fellow Trustee Penny Holmes for her hard work in making the exhibition happen and to everyone who helped with the arrangements. Thanks are also due to the school for hosting the event – and to those who visited the exhibition and supported the Trust by buying works of art.
